Portugal recognises a foreign higher-education degree through three DGES routes: automatic recognition for listed degrees and institutions (€32.20, about 30 days — the fast lane), level recognition for the academic level, and specific recognition course-by-course at a public university (about 90 days). Brazilian lawyers in Portugal: the OA–OAB reciprocity is over
Most advice you will read online is out of date. The Ordem dos Advogados ↔ OAB reciprocity that once let Brazilian lawyers join the Portuguese Bar without an internship or final exam was terminated on 5 July 2023. Lawyers already registered, or mid-application at the cut-off, were safeguarded. Everyone else now runs the standard route: DGES academic recognition of the law degree, then the Ordem dos Advogados' own admission requirements. Engineers, by contrast, still have a live reciprocity.

Engineers: the one real Portugal recognition shortcut
Most recognition stories for Brazilian professionals are stale or never quite arrived: the doctors' agreement is not in force, and the lawyers' OA–OAB reciprocity was terminated on 5 July 2023. Engineers are the exception. A Termo de Reciprocidade between CONFEA/CREA in Brazil and the Ordem dos Engenheiros in Portugal grants reciprocal registration — without revalidating the diploma. Brazilian doctors in Portugal: what's actually true in 2026
The much-hyped Brazil–Portugal medical-diploma agreement is still being negotiated — not in force — and even as proposed it covers the diploma, not the medical specialty. The old UFRJ exam-exemption ended in 2024, and the Lusophone language exemption does not waive the degree-recognition exams. The honest route is university equivalência (theory, practical and a defended written work, a year or more is realistic), then Ordem dos Médicos registration and specialty via its colleges. Short answer: for an apartment (a fraction in horizontal property) 1 cover is legally compelled — fire insurance, under Código Civil art. 1429.º. Everything broader, the multirriscos that adds water damage, theft and your contents, is optional but standard. A mortgage moves the line again: lenders require multi-risk plus life insurance as loan conditions. Bringing your pet to Porto: rules by where you're coming from
The rules for bringing a dog or cat to Porto branch by where you start. From the EU it's a microchip and a valid rabies vaccination on the EU pet passport. From the UK or US — EU-listed countries — it's an Animal Health Certificate (AHC), microchip and rabies, but no blood test.
