I would rather give you the measured minutes and the honest catches — a park whose published size varies by source, and a riverside path that is for walking and cycling, not flat road training — than sell you a green oasis that behaves differently in practice.

We ran driving routes from the parcel at 41.169194, -8.588306 to each park. The numbers below are real OpenStreetMap routing (OSRM), measured June 2026 — off-peak driving minutes and road kilometres, not straight-line distance. Where a park sits adjacent to the building, its drive minutes double as a short walk.

The closest green space is the historic Parque de São Roque, 3 minutes and 1.5 km. The flagship, Parque Oriental do Porto, is 4 minutes to its nearest (Freixo/São Roque-side) entrance — 3.2 km, close enough to walk. The citywide pair are a genuine outing: the Crystal Palace gardens 8 minutes and 5.2 km, Parque da Cidade 12 minutes and 10.4 km (OpenStreetMap routing / OSRM, June 2026). So the doorstep is green; the city's flagship parks are yours too, just with a short drive.

The doorstep park: Parque Oriental do Porto

This is the genuine local win. Parque Oriental do Porto is a linear riverside park that follows the depolluted Rio Tinto through the Campanhã valley immediately east of Antas. By area it is one of the city's largest after Parque da Cidade — the Câmara Municipal do Porto describes it as about 16 hectares of green space with footpaths, cycle paths, lawns and lakes, designed by the landscape architect Sidónio Pardal — the same architect behind Parque da Cidade. It is open public parkland with free access, and a riverside route continues on toward Gondomar over roughly 6 km.

The honest framing on size: published figures vary. The Câmara Municipal puts it at about 16 hectares; other sources cite a range from roughly 10 hectares (pre-2019, before the extension) upward. Rather than pin a single un-hedged number, the safe claim is "about 16 hectares" or, more usefully, the second-largest park in Porto. Either way it is a genuinely large riverside park next to the building, not a pocket garden — which is rare for any Porto neighbourhood, and rarer still on the eastern side.

The second doorstep garden: Parque de São Roque

Three minutes away (1.5 km) sits a different kind of green: Parque de São Roque, a historic walled garden in the same Campanhã neighbourhood. The Câmara Municipal do Porto keeps it as a 5-hectare romantic garden with camellias, a viewpoint, a box maze and a restored manor house now used as an art centre. It is ornamental rather than athletic — a place to wander on a Sunday rather than run a loop — but it is genuinely close, and a real second option for a slower green hour.

The citywide green crown, a ride away

Be honest about the famous ones: Porto's headline parks are reachable, not local. Parque da Cidade, the largest urban park in Portugal at 83 hectares with 11 km of paths, sits on the western, Atlantic edge of the city — the opposite side from Antas — at a measured 12 minutes and 10.4 km. The Jardins do Palácio de Cristal, 8 hectares of romantic gardens with free-roaming peacocks and Douro views, are central, at 8 minutes and 5.2 km. Both are real, free and worth the trip — but they are a drive, not a stroll out the front door. Lead with the doorstep; offer these as range.

The honest limits

Here is the part a brochure leaves out. First, the size question above is real: "the second-largest park in Porto" is a fair, sourced claim, but the exact hectare figure shifts between sources, so we hedge it rather than quote one number as gospel. Second, Parque Oriental is a shared walking-and-cycling park along a river valley with a gentle inland climb — lovely to walk and good for scenic distance, but it is not a flat, closed-loop road-training oval. Walkers and cyclists share the path; a runner chasing splits should treat it as terrain, not a track.

And the eastern-Porto truth, stated plainly: Antas is inland and residential, not the coast. The genuinely close park is Parque Oriental; the seafront green of Parque da Cidade is a 12-minute drive, not a walk. That is still a strong honest position — a real riverside park a few minutes away beats most Porto neighbourhoods, where every park is a ride — but it is a measured position, not a marketing one.

But it is a shared walk-and-cycle path with a gentle inland climb along the valley, not a flat, closed-loop road-training oval. For structured road running, treat it as scenic distance rather than a track.

  Yes. Parque Oriental do Porto is open public parkland with free access, and the historic Parque de São Roque garden is a free municipal park too. The citywide parks a ride away — the 83-hectare Parque da Cidade and the Jardins do Palácio de Cristal — are also free public gardens.
